Nidra is a live performance/installation feautured by a musical research meant to lead the audience through different states of consciousness - from awareness to relaxation and hypnosis - by means of an accurate mix of binaural beats and spectral modulation.
Based on the music production series from Massimiliano Viel labelled as “Polarity”, Nidra proposes a reworking of Polarity’s musical composition technique alongside real-time generated visuals that complement the various qualities of the audio; as a representation of the multiple elements that compose the sound, several sources of concentric circles expand, weave together and give rise to an elaborate texture, whose appearance evolves with the audio and is now geometric, now organic.
Nidra is a Sanskrit term meaning “sleep”. It also identifies an archaic yoga technique useful to reach systematic relaxation and cerebral integration.
